York is steeped in history, and every year, thousands of people arrive to visit its historic buildings and to drink in the atmosphere. Think ‘York’, think ‘Minster’, the Viking centre, and after that ‘railways’, as York is home to the famous Railway Museum and a busy main-line station, through the doors of which many visitors arrive.
The railway station and the surrounding area, which is in itself of great historical importance, is often a traveller’s first glimpse of this wonderful city. All the more important then, that when time came to refurbish the station, York City Council took great pains to source products which would be in keeping with their surroundings.
Barrie Colvin, Managing Director of Bollards International, explains the part played by the company, saying:
“The company has worked with the consultant to this project on previous occasions, who was therefore very familiar with our products. We have a well-earned reputation for manufacturing a range of bollards and street furniture using a highly durable polyurethane material. They can be manufactured in a range of styles and colours, having the look of cast iron, without the drawbacks associated with metal street furniture.
“We were able to replicate ‘old’ cast iron bollards using 21st century materials in their manufacture” he goes on to say. “They are aesthetically pleasing and are in keeping with the area, so helping York station to retain its historic ambience albeit with modern bollards which will never rust and will need very little maintenance.
